KATHMANDU: Nepal wins the title of 13th South Asian Game (SAG) men's football. Nepal romped to 2-1 historical victory against Bhutan in the final of men’s football during the 13th SA Games held in Kathmandu, on Tuesday.
Nepal beats Bhutan 2-1 to win gold in 13th SA Games 2019. Nepal’s Sunil Bahl scored the second goal in the 53rd minute of the game after the first half ended in 1-1. With the support of more than 15000 spectators, finally, Nepal wins the title of Men's Football of 13th SA Game at the full house Dashrath Stadium in the capital today.
Abhishek Rizal's goal in the 17th minute leads Nepal in first half. However, Chencho bounce back goal in 37th minute draw into the equal in half time.
After winning the match, Nepal secured a gold which is 51 in its total. From the beginning Nepal has made several moves, it helped Nepal to maintain the led in early time. Interestingly, Nepal secured the first gold and last gold of the 13th SAG
This is the third time Nepal has secured a gold medal in SAG Game. This year India did not participate in the tournament.
Nepal had defeated Bhutan 4-0 in the third match of the tournament in Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday, December 3.
Nepal are the defending champions of this tournament having defeated India 2-1 in 2016 SA Games held in Guwahati, India. This is the first time Bhutan has reached the finals of SAG football.
Football has been a sport at the South Asian Games since it commenced in 1984. Since the 2004 South Asian Games, the age limit for men's teams is under 23, plus up to three overage players for each squad, which is the same as the age limit in football competitions at the Summer Olympics and Asian Games.
